Whole turmeric vs Extracts !

A good example of Capitalistic behaviour is  seen in this article  … Indians have been using turmeric since millennia … no food of ours is possible without this ingredient … scientists in the west found out that turmeric is one ingredient that has huge benefits … improves heart health , reduces cancer cells dramatically , has anti inflammatory properties , reduces parasites in the body , reduces risk of alzheimer , improves immunity , reduces coughs and colds and a lot more … so what does the corporate world do … starts manufacturing turmeric capsules with extracts of high potency … 98% !!! how much curcumin is present in fresh turmeric ? 3% only ! thats all we need .. not 98% .

Too much of anything is bad … so having fresh turmeric roots in winter is far better or even cooking regularly with a pinch of turmeric is far better than gulping down capsules of turmeric with 98% potency of curcumin . Pl note extracts are never the same as the whole herb itself .. Its like saying extremely large doses of anything can be toxic ..including love 🙂 … PL NOTE THIS IS THE SAME FOR ANY EXTRACT !

Curcumin is an extract of turmeric and subject to solvent extraction.

Well-known data shows widespread contamination of curcumin products with a Class 1 residual solvent known as EDC (1, 2-dichloromethane).

But here’s the good news!

While Curcumin is the most active constituent of turmeric, the whole turmeric is more effective than taking the isolated curcumin for inflammatory disorders, including arthritis, tendonitis, and autoimmune conditions, reduction in tumors , inhibits growth of cancer cells , improving the condition of the liver to name a few .

Other studies of turmeric and Curcumin show the following benefits:

  • Turmeric extracts work as a non-steroid, anti-inflammatory drug for treatment of osteoarthritis in the knees.
  • Lab studies suggest Curcumin acts as a weak phytoestrogen and appears to protect against cancer.
  • Curcumin induces programmed death of colon cancer cells, with probable use in treatment of colon cancer.
  • Curcumin suppresses micro-inflammation in the GI tract connected with inflammatory bowel disease (IBS).

However you can have turmeric in small doses not the extract . For that matter any herb by itself is fine and not its extract . Such things and more you will get to know in case you take an appointment with our lifestyle coach’s . Write to us here or whats app “YES ”  on +91 7045964227 .
